A story of Hope

Tulla’s medical journey, shared with those who share her heart

Allow me to introduce my crew

My name is mom, mama, mommy, mooooooooooom... you get the picture. I have a loving husband, three wild boys under the age of 10, and one sweet baby girl. Tulla, is a butterfly and the reason for this blog. In the space between hospital visits and medical reports, I’ve felt the Lord's tug to share our story. I want to share Tulla’s journey with you all. I want to keep friends and family updated on the joys and struggles.

I want to share the heartbeat of our home; each triumph and tear. Hopefully, this will also be a place where other families of children with medical issues can find comfort or helpful advice.

How do you take eight months of medical anomalies and create a succinct summary?  She has struggled with growing, breathing, and eating. Terms like cyanosis and hypoxia litter her medical records. We'll get into all of it one post at a time to give you the whole picture.

Tulla’s Beginning

In late October, the stars aligned. My OB was in labor and delivery, and our pediatrician was on call on the floor. My contractions got closer together throughout the day, and since she was breech we took no chances. I’d already experienced one emergency C‑section and wasn’t ready for another, so we took the planned approach.

It was still terrifying to feel the pressure as each layer was moved to make space for her to enter the world. After what felt like an eternity, she was out. All I could think was that I needed to hold her.

She was perfect. My beautiful baby girl with thick dark hair and a sweet little cry. We knew there was a chance for some genetic abnormalities because of abnormal NIPT results, so blood samples were sent out—but we’ll get into that more later.

Holding her close brought an instant sense of peace and relief. I couldn’t believe she was here and that I had made it through what I thought would be the most challenging part of her start to life.

Little did I know this was only the beginning of a medical journey that would test me in ways I didn’t know were possible. Through each emergency room visit and hospital stay, Tulla has met each day with joy. She is the sweetest, happiest baby in the world.

In this space, I want to share all of these moments with you. I'm telling this story chronologically, so I recommend starting with the oldest post and working your way to the more recent ones to know the whole story. Thanks for reading!
